Instruction on Making a Rubbing on an Upright
Tablet of Granite Marble or Bronze

Take white butcher paper (not too thick) slightly larger than the size of the rubbing you are going to make.

Tape this securely to the tablet so that you can use lumber keel (hard black crayon at your local hardware store) to rub the outside edge all the way around including where it joins onto the base below.

Once this is completed take the point of the keel (do not use the flat side) and rub the entire face so that every detail of every letter and flower is copied.

You will also need several good pictures, preferably digital, so that we can see the exact detail of how to carve each element of the design.

After doing this, measure accurately any curves or turns in case there are any embellishments on the edges of the tablet, this will allow us to make the correct measurements for scotias, chamfers, or beveled edges.

Repeat same process for back of tablet if there is any inscription or wording on the back.
